Background- Vision is the greatest gift given by God to mankind. Through vision we can see the whole world and enjoy its beauty. But when people lose their vision, they lose the blessing of enjoying the world’s beauty that God created. They become paralyzed, as they have to depend on others for all their essential daily needs. Chitrakonda itself is very remote area where qualified Doctors are hardly available so we can’t even imagine the presence of Doctors and health services in the area because-
- It’s very-very remote
- It’s badly affected by extremism
- No health professional want go in this area at any cost
Rational for Eye Care Camp- Basic Eye Care services are not available in entire Malkangiri district. Vizag is the nearest town where Eye care facilities are available which more than 315 K.M away from the area is. Eye care facilities available in the Vizag are also not in the reach of Poor Tribal, especially all aged people of the area. Therefore people from Chitrakonda, Badapadar, Panasgandhi, Banguru, Lamasinghi, Badapada, Sarkubandha, Sariapally, RSC-11, Khiloguda, Raginiguda, Phulpadar and other villages of Chitrakonda Block, Chitrakonda sector had repeatedly requested Essar to organize an Eye Care Camp in their area. Conducting Eye Care Camp in the area was a herculean task but Essar Foundation had taken challenge to conduct a camp in spite of many hurdles and difficult conditions and has done it successfully on October 11th– 12th 2018.
Total No of Beneficiaries- Total no of 461 patients’ Eyes screening was done, 384 patients required spectacles, distribution of Spectacles plan on dated 3rd November, and total identified patients for surgery 55.
Agency hired for the camp- This Eye Care Camp was organized through Sankar Foundation, Vizag as they are specialized in Eye Care.
Area covered- Patients from more than 20 villages form 50 KM radius benefitted from the camp, all most all of them are our pipeline villages.
Permission from DC and CDM & PHO MKG- Before conducting the Eye camp Essar Foundation had taken permission from DC Malkangiri and Chief District Medical officer and Public Health Officer Malkangiri to conduct the camp.
IEC Before the camp- Intense IEC campaign (putting banners, spreading message through announcement, different Govt Dept./people) was done before the camp, that’s why good amount of people turned up during the camp
