Essar Infrastructure Uganda Limited (EIUL) – the operating entity of Essar Projects in Uganda – recently participated in the 4th National Content Conference organized by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU). The Conference is part of PAU’s endeavors to create awareness, promote and monitor the participation of Ugandans in the supply of goods and services to the Oil & Gas sector. The theme of the program was “Maximizing Value Addition through Training and Employment of Ugandan Citizens on the Tilenga EPSCC Project.”
EIUL, being one of the recognized sub-contractors for the Tilenga Project, was invited to participate in the Conference and share about its plans and strategy to maximize local content, knowledge transfer, and employment opportunities for Ugandan citizens with EIUL. Mr. Daniel Kakuru, Local Content Manager, made a presentation on behalf of EIUL and provided an in-depth overview of how EIUL plans to deliver the project while committing to maximize local content, training and development, employment opportunities for Ugandan citizens and meet the expectations of public and private stakeholders.
Currently, Uganda’s Oil & Gas Sector is witnessing huge magnitude of FDI and has become highly active with a number of mega scale projects in upstream as well as downstream segments. International oil companies operating in Uganda have been issuing EPC contracts which involve different tiers contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and vendors working together. Intense construction activity is envisaged over the next 4 years and manpower and equipment mobilization is going full swing.
Against this backdrop, the PAU through its various programs, promotes and monitors employment, capacity building, enterprise development and transfer of technology. The aim is to maximize in-country value creation and retention, development of in-country human resources & skillsets and local supplier chains in Ugandan Oil & Gas industry, whilst ensuring competitiveness and efficiency.
Essar has a culture of promoting the principle of inclusion and community wellbeing, wherever they have started operations. The Uganda team is no exception and continuous efforts are undertaken to sensitise all employees about the importance of National Content development and implement the same in spirit and reality!
