In a significant advancement for India’s green mobility sector, GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd, India’s pioneering green logistics company, took center stage at the Mint Sustainability Summit 2024. Held at the ITC Maurya in Delhi on August 28, 2024, the summit brought together a diverse group of industry leaders and experts to explore and discuss pathways to a more sustainable future across various sectors.
The event was honoured by the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, who emphasised the importance of sustainability in India’s growth trajectory. Mr. Anand Mimani, CEO, GreenLine participated in a key panel discussion titled “The Sustainable Drive: Clean Wheels in Motion,” moderated by Alisha Sachdev, Assistant Editor at Mint. The panel featured notable figures such as Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility Solutions; Anmol Jaggi, CEO of Blusmart; and Harsh Kapoor, Partner at Monitor Deloitte.
The discussion addressed the urgent need to decarbonise India’s road transport sector, which accounts for 12% of the country’s energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. Mr. Mimani used this platform to highlight GreenLine’s proactive approach in reducing emissions from heavy-duty trucking through the adoption of LNG-powered vehicles. He emphasised LNG as a crucial transitional fuel, capable of reducing carbon emissions by 30-40% compared to diesel, while the industry advances toward more advanced technologies like hydrogen and electric vehicles (EVs).
During the panel, Mr. Mimani acknowledged the ongoing challenges with LNG, including its status as a fossil fuel. However, he stressed that LNG offers a cleaner alternative by leveraging existing natural gas infrastructure. Given that hydrogen technology for long-haul trucking remains years away from commercialisation, LNG presents an immediate solution for decarbonising long-distance logistics.
Mr. Mimani also discussed the necessity of developing robust infrastructure to support alternative fuels. He shared insights into GreenLine’s efforts through its subsidiary, Ultra Gas, which is dedicated to establishing an LNG fuelling network across India. This infrastructure is essential for the widespread adoption of LNG in heavy-duty trucking.
On the topic of financing, Mr. Mimani noted the difficulties in securing funding for alternative fuel technologies and advocated for increased government support to facilitate broader adoption. He suggested that linking EV chargers with renewable energy sources could further enhance the sustainability of these technologies.
In conclusion, Mr. Mimani reaffirmed GreenLine’s commitment to decarbonising road logistics by 2030, with a goal of reducing Scope 3 emissions by at least 30%. He expressed optimism that LNG and EVs will complement each other in this endeavour, with LNG addressing long-haul needs and EVs covering shorter distances.
GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd remains dedicated to driving sustainable change in India’s logistics sector and will continue to lead efforts in reducing emissions and promoting green mobility solutions.
