Cricket holds a special place in the hearts of Mumbaikars, transcending the seasons, uniting people in passion and excitement. As IPL fever fills the air, Essar Foundation is proud to step up and sponsor the “CMSF Cricket Match 2025”, an event dedicated to empowering children and youth from Mumbai’s marginalised communities. Held on Sunday, 13th April 2025, at the St. Francis D’Assisi Ground, Borivali West, the tournament brought together young, aspiring cricketers from slums stretching from Malad to Dahisar.
Celebrating its 30th year, the CMSF Cricket Cup is an initiative of the Franciscan Brothers of Borivali West, in collaboration with Kala Sadhana Arts and Charitable Centre (KSACC), and supported by SFIMAR Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) and Abhimaan Club. The event was inaugurated by Dominic D’Souza, COO of CSR, Essar Foundation, who highlighted the importance of community-driven initiatives in fostering social change through sports.
A total of 48 teams participated, with each team comprising 15 players, which collectively brought together 720 youth and children from the slums. These participants demonstrated not only their sporting talents but also their resilience and determination, showcasing the power of sport in overcoming socio-economic challenges.
As part of our continued commitment to creating lasting social impact, Essar Foundation also supported the participants by providing snacks and lunch throughout the event, ensuring they had the nourishment needed to perform at their best.
Essar Foundation is determined in its mission to support marginalised communities, with a particular focus on youth empowerment. Through initiatives like the CMSF Cricket Match, we are proud to be a catalyst for change, helping provide these children with the opportunity to unlock their potential, build self-confidence, and foster teamwork.
We believe that by supporting youth through sports, we are not just creating a platform for play, but for a brighter future.
