Avid Learning, the cultural philanthropy arm of Essar, recently collaborated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai First and Kalaghoda Arts Association to present a discussion that focussed on highlighting Mumbai’s cultural transformation through the decades, along with a take on the way forward. With its chaotic yet illustrious history, some of the best-designed architectures, and celebrated forms of arts, Mumbai proudly emerged as ‘the city of dreams with a vast cultural identity since independence. It depicts its connection with various traditions, religions, cuisines, music, films, and fine arts through its monumental locations and rich heritage.
Speakers of the session, Director General, CSMVS Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Conservation Architect & Designer, Vikas Dilawari, Professor of History, University of Mumbai and Author Manjiri Kamath, CEO of Avid Learning and Curator and Royal Opera House, Mumbai, Asad Lalljee, Author, Poet and Critic, Rochelle Potkar, Eminent Theatre Personality and Founder and CREATE Foundation Raell Padamsee were in conversation with Author and Editor, Scroll.in, Naresh Fernandes shared their perceptions on the journey of this Urbs Prima City thus far, how its Art, Culture and Heritage aspect has evolved over the years for better or worse and how resilient the Heritage and Culture of Mumbai has been as its witnessed many achievements of the city.
