Avid Learning continued its enduring partnership with Kalaghoda Arts Festival 2025 country’s largest multicultural spectacle for its festival’s Silver Jubilee edition. Since 2011, Avid Learning has contributed thoughtfully curated programming that resonates with the festival’s spirit of art, culture, and community. This year Avid Learning presented a dynamic lineup of conversations, workshops, and discussions that explore the intersection of tradition, creativity, and innovation.
As Member of the Kala Ghoda Association’s Executive Committee, Asad Lalljee, CEO of Avid Learning and Curator of Royal Opera House Mumbai, mentored across various verticalsplayed a pivotal role in shaping the festival’s diverse programming. He worked along with various senior members by providing strategic insights and fostered interdisciplinary collaborations bringing enriched artistic and cultural offerings to the Festival.
Avid Learning collaborated with Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service National Museum of African American History the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai to present exhibition‘City of Hope: Gandhi, King, and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign,’ on display at the Art Entrance Gallery from January 25 to February 8th. This collaboration marks Avid Learning’s enduring partnership with the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai, which began in 2014, has been instrumental in bringing global art & culture to our Maximum City.
This compelling exhibit delves into the history and legacy of a pivotal moment in U.S. history commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s daring vision to end poverty in the United States. It explores the connections between Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the Poor People’s March of 1968 through the lens of peace and non-violence; it is currently being displayed in cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Kolkata. To commemorate this exhibition, Avid Learning facilitated a panel discussion at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2025, featuring the curator of the Curator of Photography at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Smithsonian Institution. His research and curatorial work, recognized with nearly 25 prestigious honors, reflect his dedication to cultural history and social justice. The discussion was opened by Asad Lalljee, CEO of Avid Learning, who presented the introductory notes.
Other panellists included cultural theorist and curator, Nancy Adajania Journalist, Columnist, and Author Kalpana Sharma, Associate Professor of History at the S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, and an associate at the Mittal South Asia Institute, Harvard University, Dr. Dinyar Patel.
Together, the panellists explored how art and cultural movements can champion human rights, foster equitable societies, and weave threads of history, humanity, and hope.
The Spirit of Kala Ghoda
The panel discussion at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2025 explored the evolution of Kala Ghoda as a cultural cornerstone, celebrating its Silver Jubilee and reflecting on its impact on Mumbai’s artistic and heritage landscape. Panelists discussed the festival’s transformation from a modest beginning in 1999 to Asia’s largest multidisciplinary arts festival, emphasizing its role in fostering creativity, community, and cultural preservation. They also highlighted Kala Ghoda’s restoration initiatives, such as the David Sassoon Library, and how these efforts ensure the precinct remains vibrant and relevant for future generations. The conversation underscored the festival’s enduring spirit—where tradition meets innovation, and heritage inspires progress.

Workshops @ Kalaghoda Arts Festival
The Avid Learning team curated over 40 engaging workshops for the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, spanning diverse genres such as art, design, literature, photography, technology, and performing arts. These workshops brought together renowned experts, educators, and artists to create immersive, hands-on learning experiences for audiences of all ages. Through these thoughtfully designed workshops, Avid Learning reinforced its commitment to democratizing access to the arts, fostering creativity, and nurturing Mumbai’s vibrant cultural community.
The Workshops @ Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2025 received phenomenal response, with 50-60 attendees engaging in enriching sessions throughout the day. From capturing the festival’s vibrant spirit in Through the Lens: Capturing the Spirit of Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, led by Urban Development practitioner and Documentary Photographer Rohit Lahoti, to exploring pop culture insights in Decode Your Feed with Aastha D., the workshops catered to diverse creative interests. Attendees personalized steel bottles in the Milton Bottle Painting Workshop with Tanvi Dua, uncovered the power of archiving in Remembrance of Things Present with authors Ulka Chauhan and Samira Sheth. Writing workshops like Heroes, Villains, and Inbetweens with Aishwarya Javalgekar. Heritage and history found a place in Rediscovering Tagore’s Music and Uncovering Bombay through Early Prints & Paintings with Mrinal Kapadia, and Decoding Art Deco—a sketching and heritage walk with Zainab Tambawalla and Khaki Tours. The workshops also delved into wellness and mindfulness with Mantra Medicine by Sanskrit expert Shreya Radhika Lakhani and Art for Healing, exploring art’s therapeutic benefits. With hands-on experiences, expert-led sessions, and a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and heritage, the workshops at Kala Ghoda 2025 inspired and engaged participants.
