Essar Foundation was recently recognised for its relentless efforts in humanitarian services rendered during the Covid-19 pandemic. Essar Foundation launched the “Essar Cares” initiative, aimed at providing medical supplies and alleviating hunger across a cross section of the Nation’s population during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Under Essar Cares, the Foundation’s community outreach efforts have encompassed the following: Essar Meal Project, Essar Health Project, Essar Rainbow Project, Essar Covid-9 Relief Fund and Sahej Project.
In a ceremony hosted by Pasbaan-e-Adaab at Raj Bhavan on 20 February 2021, Mr Dominic Dsouza, COO-Essar Foundation, was felicitated with a certificate and shawl by Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra.
At the event, Essar Foundation also received the CSR Shining Star Award presented by Wockhardt Foundation for its “Essar Rainbow Project Initiative“. A trophy and certificate was presented to the Mr Dsouza by Shri Koshyari in the presence of Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO-Wockhardt Foundation.
The Essar Cares initiative had a 360 degree approach to relief and specific-focus projects. Through the Essar Meal Project, Essar Foundation has provided over 20 lakh meals to vulnerable communities. The Essar Health Project has benefitted frontline Covid warriors at hospitals, police stations and villages by distributing over 1.55 lakh units of medical supplies & 5,000 PPE kits. Under its Rainbow Project, Essar helped in rescue efforts, financial support, and supply of food/essentials to the transgender community, and through the Sahej Project, an app was launched to promote awareness about menstrual hygiene and provide access to affordable menstrual products to women from all social classes. In fact, the App was launch with the flagging of a massive sanitary napkins distribution drive where over 4 lakh pads were distributed to women in Mumbai slums and the Mumbai Police, and that too during the Covid-lockdown.
As a socially responsible corporate, Essar has pledged to make a meaningful contribution towards augmenting administrative efforts to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak in India.
