“Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use, to change the world.” – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
Essar Ports and Essar Foundation, in their pursuit to support the education of underprivileged children of St. Francis Orphanage, are sponsoring the education and boarding expenses of 38 children of an orphanage for the academic year 2022–2023.
St. Francis Orphanage, situated at Mount Poinsur, was established by Bro. Paulus Mortiz to house the excluded, unfortunate, marginalised and underprivileged children, and to enable them to experience the fullness of life through means of education and shelter. The orphanage was established in 1908 and has since cared, looked after and helped orphans, semi-orphans and poor boys build their lives.
Former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam once said – “The purpose of education is to make good human beings with skill and expertise.”
Essar Ports and Essar Foundation also believe that sports and music play an important role in the overall development of a child. Hence they are also providing extensive support in training these children in sports and music to ensure their overall development.
Dominic Dsouza, COO-CSR, Essar Foundation will also be mentoring the children during the year, so as to enable them to face the challenges of the world. Counselling sessions for the children too have been planned to enable them to improve their soft skills and became confident.
On behalf of Essar Ports, and the Essar Foundation team – Dominic Dsouza, Payal Chhabra and Tej Singh Barwa visited the orphanage and interacted with the children. The children were also provided with snacks and beverages on the occasion.
