Strategically positioned on India’s west coast, Gujarat is emerging as a powerhouse for industrial and infrastructural development. With its favourable business environment, the state is solidifying its role in the nation’s growth narrative and putting Gujarat on the global map for investment.
At the forefront of this transformation is Essar, a key player reshaping Gujarat’s infrastructure landscape for over four decades. Essar has built world-class assets in Gujarat, including its Jamnagar refinery and Hazira Steel Complex, establishing a legacy of excellence that underpins its ongoing contributions to the state’s growth. With direct investments exceeding Rs 1,00,000 crore, Essar’s commitment has created over 20,000 jobs and fostered development that drives Gujarat’s economic progress.
As Gujarat evolves, Essar’s contributions remain vital to its journey. With the global push for sustainability, Essar is rebalancing its portfolio towards green businesses, and Gujarat remains at the core of its strategic investment plan. It is making substantial investments in the port and power sectors, enhancing the state’s capabilities and supporting its ambitious development goals.
Essar Power is leading a development plan targeting a total capacity of 10,000 MW, which includes 3,000 MW in thermal power and 7,000 MW in renewable energy. The expansion of the 1,200 MW Salaya-Dev Bhoomi Dwarka Thermal Power Plant will add an additional 1,600 MW to meet the state’s base-load power needs. Additionally, Essar Power is venturing into renewable energy, focusing on solar, battery storage, electric vehicle infrastructure, and wind energy.
In the ports sector, Essar Ports plans to invest approximately $1 billion (Rs 8,300 crore) in developing a green hub at Salaya. This all-weather, deep-draft port will expand its cargo handling capacity from 20 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 100 mtpa within five years, with a focus on green hydrogen production and LNG handling. To further enhance connectivity, plans are underway to establish a 17 km rail link and improved highway access, connecting Jamnagar with Amritsar. This infrastructure development is expected to stimulate economic growth in the region.
Essar’s ongoing investments and strategic initiatives are crucial in propelling Gujarat towards its ambitious development goals. As the state continues to thrive, Essar remains committed to shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for Gujarat.
